Sharing spirit of Belly Dancing
Posted July 13th, 2008 by limconnyIn fact when in Egypt, l saw how united are the Egyptian belly dancers, l mean, you can see how they support and cheer for those Egyptian dancers who are performing on stage, they are not stingy to shout and zaghareet for them, and this really make me feel warm, even though l don't know how they get along down of stage, as a performer, l understand the cheer from the audience is so important to a performer, this is a real power to us!
This trip, l did not enjoy my performance there at all, as l am not an Egyptian dancer and also not dancer from those 'R' 'K' 'U', you know, they cheer for their own people, only! After l performed, l told Pauline from KL how bad was my feeling and she encouraged me immediately. After coming back from there, l told Sherlyn when corresponding with her, l said: think now l found my direction in belly dancing, we Malaysian belly dancers have to be united, to appreciate and support each other, because what those belly dancers have shown are such ugly and thank to them, because this actually has provided a very good example to us! Sherlyn agreed with this too.
And now l started to understand the spirit of American Tribal belly dance and how it has been created.
This trip, l met many new good friends, there are still many participants with good personality. The two Chinese girls whom we helped them on their registration, sponsored us the food they brought from China, ha ha, you know we were so poor there, no food to eat and almost taking biscuits everyday, that's why when l came back, everybody told me l lost weight again!
I always get along well with Japanese [so l decided to learn Japanese now] and this trip, l met Yuki [very close to her] , Kaoru, Saeko, E Chan and Kanae, besides, l met also korean Chui Zhi Juan, Pasha from Hong Kong,, Bozhana from Bulgaria [she is a very friendly girl who gave me many useful information of Turkey] and some from US and Australia, but unfortunately l did not get contact from some of them.
There are many good belly dancers in the world, those small group in this festival do not represent anything, but it is sad to tell that, there are also many bad belly dancers everywhere including here Malaysia. What l have to do is, to get my clear direction, l treat all these as a lesson which helps me improving my personality, dance skill and the spirit. The dance is so beautiful, l should learn how to enjoy this beautiful art instead of being affected by those ugly ladies, because, l am not stupid ma..........
I remember how l started belly dancing, l think l am lucky because l took my first lesson from Tamalyn Dallal, who is a master of many belly dance superstars. Tamalyn has shown to me how 'broad' is this dance art , and those pretty dancers as well--Aziza, Kaeshi , Rose Sing, Sharon Kihara......and l remember what Professor Hassan has told me , after watching my 'One Night in Shanghai' in Singapore, he said, he is so glad to see his country's culture- belly dance has became a dance for the world-- from my performance...... What he said has enhanced my power in promoting this art, as l am a person with very strong character, l actually love Chinese dance the most, sometimes l feel weird when l do belly dancing as l am not Egyptian or from Middle East. But now, l think l really love this art, as l found, a few parts from my personality [or a person who l want to be] are corresponding to this dance, those are to share, to be down to earth, to be fair regardless of skin colour and nationality, most of all, to be a woman with wits and beauty.
